SONOFF S-MATE2 Switch Mate - Wireless Interface for eWeLink-Remote Wall Switches

OVERVIEW

The S-MATE2 (Switch Mate) is an innovative wireless interface module from SONOFF that revolutionizes the upgrading of existing electrical installations. Unlike traditional smart switches like MINI or BASIC that replace wiring, the S-MATE2 simply connects in parallel to your existing wall switches (toggle or push button) to detect their actions and wirelessly transmit them to the eWeLink-Remote ecosystem.

Unique Concept: The S-MATE2 is NOT a load switch. It does not manage any mains voltage and does not directly control any device. It is a switch action detector that functions as a scene and automation trigger in the eWeLink-Remote ecosystem. This approach offers significant advantages:

  • Neutral-free installation: Powered by CR2477 battery, no neutral wire required
  • Non-invasive installation: Wires in parallel with the existing switch, no modification of the electrical circuit
  • Maximum safety: No handling of mains voltage, installation possible by non-electricians
  • Total flexibility: Works with toggle switches AND push buttons

Based on the AK803 microcontroller and the 2.4 GHz eWeLink-Remote protocol, this module communicates with compatible eWeLink-Remote gateways (like the MINIR4) to trigger complex automations. A typical usage example: your traditional living room wall switch no longer directly controls the lighting but sends a signal to the S-MATE2, which triggers a complete scene (gradual lighting + closing blinds + heating activation).

With ultra-compact dimensions of 40.3×37.4×18.3mm and only 26.8g, the S-MATE2 easily conceals behind any wall switch in the mounting box. The provided CR2477 battery ensures several years of autonomy depending on usage. An LED indicator on the module provides visual feedback of state changes and battery status.

Important point: This product requires a compatible eWeLink-Remote gateway to function. It does NOT work standalone, does NOT connect directly to Wi-Fi, and is NOT compatible with Matter, Zigbee, or other protocols. It is a sub-device of the eWeLink-Remote ecosystem only.

KEY FEATURES

  • Universal interface for existing switches without electrical modification: The S-MATE2 detects the state changes of your traditional wall switches by direct parallel connection, without modifying the existing electrical wiring. The installation preserves the normal electrical operation of your circuit: the wall switch continues to physically cut/restore the load as before, but the S-MATE2 detects these actions and transmits them wirelessly. Thus, you retain a manual backup operation even if the gateway or network fails.
  • Double compatibility with toggle and push-button switches: The DIP switch on the casing allows configuring the detection mode: toggle switch (factory default mode) for traditional two-way switches, or push button for momentary buttons. This flexibility covers absolutely all types of standard European wall switches. Changing the mode is simple (DIP switch + LED confirmation with 3 flashes) and can be done at any time without reprogramming the gateway.
  • Standalone power supply with long-life CR2477 battery: The provided 3V CR2477 coin battery ensures several years of typical autonomy (depending on usage frequency). No need for a neutral wire, transformer, or complex wiring. The module continuously monitors the battery level and signals a low state by triple LED flashing during state changes. This exceptional autonomy makes it an ideal solution for upgrading old installations lacking neutral in the mounting boxes.
  • Integration with the eWeLink-Remote ecosystem for advanced automations: Once paired with an eWeLink-Remote gateway (MINIR4, MINIR3, NSPanel Pro, iHost with eWeLink-Remote function), the S-MATE2 becomes a powerful trigger for smart scenes. Create complex automations in the eWeLink app: a simple press on your wall switch can simultaneously control dozens of devices (lights, blinds, heating, ventilation, multimedia). The scenes execute locally via the gateway for instant reactivity even without an internet connection.
  • Visual LED feedback for confirmation and diagnostics: The integrated blue LED confirms each state change of the switch with a single quick flash, allowing you to verify that the action is detected and transmitted. The triple flash when changing the DIP switch mode confirms the new configuration. The triple flash during a normal action signals a low battery level requiring replacement. This visual feedback greatly facilitates installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Ultra-compact installation in existing mounting box: With its 40.3×37.4×18.3mm and only 26.8g, the S-MATE2 fits into absolutely all standard mounting boxes, even the oldest or shallowest ones. The screw terminals accept cables of different sections for adaptation to your existing installation. The minimal footprint leaves enough space to handle the cables when reassembling the wall switch.
  • Simple pairing by radio learning in 10 seconds: The pairing procedure is intuitive: activate the learning mode on the eWeLink-Remote gateway via the eWeLink app, then operate the switch connected to the S-MATE2 within 10 seconds. The gateway automatically detects the module and adds it as a sub-device. No QR code to scan, no complex handling. The S-MATE2 then appears in the app as an available trigger for creating scenes.
